Thomsen-type parameters and attenuation coefficients for constant-Q transverse isotropy

چکیده
Transversely isotropic (TI) media with the frequency-independent quality-factor elements (also called “constant- Q” transverse isotropy) are often used to describe attenuation anisotropy in sedimentary rocks. The coefficients constant- Q TI models can be conveniently defined terms of Thomsen-type attenuation-anisotropy parameters. Recent research indicates that not all those parameters for such frequency-independent. Here, we present concise analytic formulas Kjartansson’s model and show one them ([Formula: see text]) varies frequency. expression [Formula: text] helps evaluate frequency dependence normalized P- SV-waves by introducing newly “dispersion factors.” These factors expressed Thomsen at a specified reference Viscoacoustic isotropy is also discussed as special case, which elliptical condition simplified expressions derived. Our results that, presence significant absorption, vary oblique propagation respect symmetry axis. This variation needs taken into account when applying spectral-ratio method other attenuation-analysis techniques.

Total absorption, defined as the net flux of energy out of a bounded region averaged over one cycle for time harmonic motion, must be non-negative when there are no sources of energy within the region. This passivity condition places constraints on the non-dimensional absorption coefficients of longitudinal and transverse waves, γL and γT, in isotropic linearly viscoelastic materials. Typically...
متن کاملBrittle Bone Fracture Risk with Transverse Isotropy
Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heritable bone fragility disorder characterized by skeletal deformity and “brittle” bones. This fragility is believed to stem from a combination of bone mass deficiency and compromised bone material properties [1-3]. Poor bone quality poses major orthopaedic and rehabilitation challenges. Risk of fracture is a major consideration when prescribing activity restr...
متن کاملTransverse Isotropy in Identical Particle Scattering
It is pointed out that the cross section for the scattering of identical charged bosons is isotropic over a broad angular range around 90o when the Sommerfeld parameter has a critical value, which depends exclusively on the spin of the particle. A discussion of systems where this phenomenon can be observed is presented. The scattering of identical particles is a routine exercise in quantum mech...
متن کاملStress-induced transverse isotropy in rocks
The application of uniaxial pressure can induce elastic anisotropy in otherwise isotropic rocks. We consider models based on two very different rock classes, granites and weakly consolidated granular systems. We show (1) that these models share common underlying assumptions, (2) that they lead to similar qualitative behavior, and (3) that both provide a microscopic basis for elliptical anisotro...
متن کاملIsotropy or weak vertical transverse isotropy in D00 beneath the Atlantic Ocean
Received 30 January 2004; revised 14 May 2004; accepted 14 June 2004; published 13 August 2004. [1] Shear velocity properties of D00 beneath the central Atlantic Ocean are explored using predominantly European seismic recordings of intermediate and deep focus (>100 km) South American earthquakes. Broadband data are analyzed and, when possible, corrected for upper mantle models of receiver-side ...
